Drive benefited hugely from the against-type casting of Albert Brooks as the villain in Drive. Brooks delivered a savage, scarcely contained performance that was far away from the lighter comedic roles he was generally known for. Watching him talk about ending lives and then actually going through with it himself made him an unexpectedly effective villain, far outshining the film's other antagonists (namely Ron Perlman) who might be more typically associated with a badass role like this. Only God Forgives, though, just might have a diamond in the rough by way of Vithaya Pansringarm, who plays Chang aka the Angel of Vengeance, the ruthless police officer who becomes Julian's (Gosling) foe throughout the film. Though Pansringarm will be largely unknown to Western audiences - aside from a cameo in The Hangover Part II - the trailers so far give every indication that he's going to be every bit the calculated, unstoppable foe that Brooks was in Drive. And there's the added bonus of him being exceedingly proficient with a samurai sword.
