Captain America: Civil War - 10 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Nov 5)

8. It's Going To Be Politically Relevant

According to the now infamously happy to talk Anthony Mackie, Civil War will lean on modern real-life politics, following on the trend set by The Winter Soldier. Speaking to CBR, when asked if there was some inspiration in the current political climate, Mackie was pretty clear: €œVery much so. I feel like "Captain America" is all about the ups and downs of the society that we live in today. It's really genius how Marvel can take fictional characters -- superheroes at that -- and then take the politics of today and wrap them all together and make you believe and buy into it.€ So, we can probably expect some weighted allegories exploring the moral rightness of government surveillance and military power - particularly drone warfare (since Falcon himself has had one added to his ensemble). As if they didn€™t have enough elements to play with. Rating: 10/10 While the film probably won€™t clone the comic book€™s focus on superhero registration (that€™s not quite what the Accords will be), it seems inevitable that there will be some serious exploration into issues of governmental behaviour moderation and surveillance. Even without Mackie€™s confirmation (of sorts) that much was pretty obvious.
