While comic book fans have been eagerly awaiting this moment, all but sure that the harrowing assassination will play out at the end of the film, general audiences are much more unassuming about what might happen. If Russo is speaking to the general populace that there will be controversy, surely it would be because they plan on killing the films beloved main character.
For casual fans, it could ignite a firestorm. Marvel has never killed a truly major player and have no idea how their general audiences will react to such a drastic development. It could shock an enormous amount of people and cause them to leave the theatre with mouths agape, but not necessarily in awe.
Even for comic book fans, actually going through with this monumental moment could leave some on edge. Just because theyre expecting it doesnt mean everyone is OK with such a great character being taken out of the picture, even if hes bound to return for Infinity War in some form.
