Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter was something of a non-character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who posed as Cap's neighbour, and who will reportedly be joining Cap's side in Civil War. The problem is that, like most of the strictly human characters in The Avengers like Hawkeye and Black Widow, she's inevitably going to feel a bit dull and out of place compared to Iron Man and the more supernatural pieces of the puzzle. Furthermore, it's been suggested that a romance may blossom between Carter and Cap, and considering that the overwhelming majority of the MCU's romances have been pretty terrible, this could result in more wasted screen time on something audiences aren't remotely invested in or convinced by.
