Captain America: Civil War - Every Character Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Iron Man
It should have been remarkably easy to dislike Tony Stark in Civil War. After all, he was basically set up as the government's poster boy for legislative control, shorn of the personal morality issues that motivate Cap.
But, somewhat inevitably, there's a lot more to Robert Downey Jr's performance than that. This, we're reminded insistently, is the same Tony whose guilt almost ended the world and who is still haunted by feelings of inadequacy. He might not fully believe that the Accords are right, but he knows that uncontrolled Avengers killing innocents is wrong.
Downey Jr is flintier here and obviously put out by what he sees as Cap's naivety, but his usual charisma remains unsullied for the most part. His interaction with Spider-Man in particular shows he's not entirely declawed (even if telling a young lad you want to nail his auntie is a little outrageous), and when the finale requires him to sell grief and all-encompassing rage, he manages admirably.
