12. Jude Law Is Secretly Playing Mar-Vell
The Rumour: Marvel Studios was suspiciously unwilling to name Jude Law's character in the movie for quite some time, prompting many to suspect that he would end up playing Carol Danvers' mentor Walter Lawson aka Mar-Vell.
Even when Marvel announced that Law would be playing a re-imagined version of the comic villain Yon-Rogg - here serving as a mentor for Carol - fans weren't convinced, and couldn't escape the feeling that Law would reveal his secret identity in the third act of the movie.
The Truth: Though Law's character did turn out to have a secret - the not-so-shocking surprise that he's actually a bad guy - there's no big twist or reveal related to his identity.
He remains Yon-Rogg throughout, though it is later revealed that Dr. Wendy Lawson (Annette Bening) was in fact the Kree scientist known as Mar-Vell and Carol's true mentor.
