Captain Marvel Trailer: 5 Things We Want To See

5. The Skrulls

Since Captain Marvel is set in the nineties, it makes us wonder where she's been in the time since then. The villains of this movie likely give us that answer, she's been off fighting the devious shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls. We've already seen what they'll look like, as the EW preview showed us Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn.

The Skrulls are green, pointy-eared aliens that can change their appearance - and they're also well known for their role in 'The Kree-Skrull War' from the comics, which will be adapted in Captain Marvel. Since they're an alien race we haven't met just yet, the trailer really needs to establish them as a threat big enough to warrant a photon-powered hero to beat the snot out of them.

That could be done by showing their dastardly infiltrating skills, like when they pretended to be most of Earth's mightiest heroes during the fantastic Secret Invasion comics event. Or by showing off the mightily intimidating scale of the Skrull Empire. In the comics, Talos isn't able to shape shift, but he does have super-strength to make up for that, so chances are he and Captain Marvel will go head-to-head at some point.
