If you fancy yourself a bit of a technophile, and enjoy seeing before-and-after flavoured peeks behind the curtain, then ComicBookMovie have the video for you. Even better if you're a Star Wars fan. A 10-minute long look at the various stages of VFX development on The Force Awakens, there's some really interesting side by side comparisons here that allow us to see exactly how much of this shindig was practical and how much was CGI, and the answers may surprise you. https://vimeo.com/151728142 The video appeared as a bootleg version earlier today - just in time for the Oscar voting season, incidentally, for the cynics among you. TFA was earlier nominated for the visual effects award, and the reasons as to why are right in that video up there. The reappearance of this vid online suggests that Disney and Lucasfilm are more than happy for it to do the rounds and pick up some buzz as to the extent of the special effects used in Force Awakens. I'd also have to argue that anyone who's surprised at the amount of decent VFX in a modern-day Star Wars movie is obviously not someone who watches films with any frequency.
