Child's Play Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. The Lazy, Predictable Ending

No spoilers here, but despite a gonzo finale which delivers the glorious insanity fans have been waiting for, the film's ending delivers nothing more than the most cliched sequel-bait set-up possible.

Of course, the film was always going to hint at a sequel - though going by its just-OK early box office, those prospects are pretty dubious already - but did it need to do so in such a flatly unimaginative, even lazy fashion?

Basically, if you consider how this movie could possibly set up another one, your first or second guess is sure to be correct - there's no creativity or inventiveness to it, which makes it tough to get too excited about the prospect, no matter this film's strengths.
