I'm ready to believe Moviehole's exclusive scoop that Warner Bros, director Chris Nolan and producer Emma Thomas are now meeting with several late 20s, early 30s ladies for 'the prospective female lead' in Batman 3, that will probably end up being the anti-hero jewel thief Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Our friends at Batman on Film were reliably informed Catwoman would appear in the movie many moons ago, and given the potential lucrative nature of the character (the only one to be spun-off into her own movie we should remember, even if it was a disaster) and the fact the door is wide open for a new female character (and enticingly a femme fatale), then Catwoman's addition shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. What Moviehole's scoop tells me is that Nolan either didn't get his first choice/or choices for the role or unlike Tom Hardy for The Riddler, Aaron Eckhart for Two-Face and Heath Ledger for The Joker, he never actually had anyone in mind for the part as he usually goes straight to the actor/actress he wants and makes them an offer. No auditioning required, usually. It's said the ladies taking meetings don't actually know what part they are up for and have instead just being invited to meet with Nolan. Which suggests these are people he hasn't worked with before. Moviehole says they know some of the names up for the role but have been asked by their reps not to spill, so it doesn't interfere with their chances. It's hinted that they aren't big names, but then neither was Tom Hardy and Aaron Eckhart, really? Filming isn't scheduled until well into the spring.
