Clive Owen will play the legendary hard boiled detective Phillip Marlowe after Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment bought the movie rights to the Raymond Chandler noir novels. These novels include The Big Sleep, Farewell My Lovely and The Long Goodbye which have all been adapted to the big screen, with great success. The Big Sleep in particular, starred the icon Humphrey Bogart and is often cited as one of the best movies the film noir genre has ever produced. It's not yet known which novel they will be translating to the screen, so we could yet see a remake of one of those mentioned above. The studio is currently on the hunt for a director. Variety report that the plan is to set the movies in Los Angeles in the 1940's in an attempt to keep the spirit of the Chandler novels, with the character of Marlowe still being a "hard-drinking, wisecracking gumshoe" I know I keep hating on Clive Owen but I think I'm in the minority as he seems really popular with you guys and he keeps getting these big roles. When I stop and think about it, he seems perfect for the role of Phillip Marlowe, a detached detective with little charisma getting through each day with alcohol and cigarettes. Although his embarrassing performance in the film noir Sin City does concern me. source - variety
