18. The Mitchells vs. The Machines 2

Brilliant animated comedy The Mitchells Vs. The Machines is an unfortunate victim of the COVID time-suck, given that it was released at a high point of the pandemic and, as a result, was sold to Netflix by Sony, ensuring it never got the splashy theatrical release it deserved.

Despite scoring rave reviews and receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines never quite developed the vocal fan following one might've expected, and so it was easy to be sceptical about a proposed sequel ever actually getting made.

But its initial triumph as Netflix's most-streamed animated original film apparently carried through to longer-term success, as last October Netflix confirmed that The Mitchells vs. The Machines 2 is officially happening, with the first film's head-of-story, Guillermo Martinez, set to co-direct alongside JP Sans (The Bad Guys 2).

No word yet on when the sequel might materialise, though it probably shouldn't be expected for at least a couple of years.
