20 Announced Movie Sequels That Are FINALLY Happening

20. World War Z 2

Though it went through a hellish production, World War Z surprisingly came out the other side fairly unscathed, with solid reviews and a global box office haul of $540 million.

Shortly after the film's summer 2013 release, Paramount confirmed that a sequel was in the works, with J. A. Bayona (The Impossible) originally tapped to direct for a 2017 bow.

Later David Fincher of all filmmakers was subbed in for the job, with Brad Pitt confirmed to return, but in early 2019 World War Z 2 was suddenly cancelled, apparently in part due to the Chinese government's ban on films featuring zombies, as would seriously dent the film's box office prospects.

However, at CinemaCon this past April, Paramount announced that World War Z 2 was officially happening, though they didn't provide any further details - namely whether it'd be a direct follow-up to the 2013 film or a "requel" that soft-reboots the IP considering how much time has passed.
