20 Announced Movie Sequels That Are FINALLY Happening

2. The Mummy 4

Ever since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor brought the Brendan Fraser-starring adventure franchise to a lackluster conclusion in 2008, fans have clung to hope that, one day, it might get the legacy sequel treatment.

This seemed like an utter pipe dream for many years, but following Fraser's recent career resurgence and Oscar win, it appeared that the winds finally started blowing in the right direction.

Last November, The Mummy 4 was reported to be in development, with Scream and Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett set to direct with Fraser and Rachel Weisz to star (after Weisz sat out the previous film).

Even so, as recently as January Fraser ascertained that The Mummy 4 wasn't definitely happening yet, though by February a May 2028 release date was confirmed.

If there was any remaining doubt, the production put its foot on the gas recently, both confirming the return of John Hannah and bringing the film's release date forward to October 15, 2027, suggesting that production is going to get started imminently. You love to see it.
