18. I Am Legend 2

Even though 2007's I Am Legend felt like a relatively closed-off story given that it concluded with the explosive demise of hero Robert Neville (Will Smith) - a creative decision Warner Bros. would come to sorely regret - its almost-$600 million global box office caused the studio to rethink the finality of that.

A prequel was initially discussed which would've allowed Smith to reprise his role, but by 2011 this project was said to no longer be in development.

Over the next decade, Warner Bros. toyed with several different iterations of I Am Legend 2, before finally announcing the sequel in 2022, with Smith set to star alongside Michael B. Jordan.

In an unorthodox move, the producers opted to shape this sequel around the far superior alternate home video ending - where Neville survives - but even as the scripting process got underway, it was hard to believe it would ever actually happen.

Yet back in April, Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. confirmed that he was set to helm the film, and while we don't have word of a release date or shooting window yet, there's enough forward momentum now that it actually seems like I Am Legend 2 will happen sooner rather than later.
