7. Violation

Fair warning to anyone considering watching it: Violation is absolutely not for the faint of heart or stomach.

An uncommonly visceral entry into the rape-revenge subgenre, Violation follows a woman, Miriam (Madeleine Sims-Fewer), who seeks revenge against her brother in law after a traumatic incident, as leads her down an intensely dark path.

Sims-Fewer, who also co-wrote and co-directed the film with Dusty Mancinelli, gives an utterly fearless performance in the lead role, as a character who threatens to lose her own sense of self in her pursuit of vengeance.

The filmmakers cleverly sidestep salacious cliches from other similar films all while flipping the script on what audiences surely expect to see from a film like this.

The bursts of brutality, though brief, are tough to shake precisely because they're so unnervingly matter-of-fact, and in turn leave quite the bruising impact.

But again, nobody could be blamed for not wanting to spend 107 minutes in such a miserable world.
