20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut
These insane horror movie scenes never made it to the screen.
It's a basic expectation that most horror movies aren't exactly going to be a feel-good time, and that audiences might experience some discomfort. It's in the genre's name, after all.
But there are of course levels to this, and sometimes what's written and even filmed ends up going too far for the filmmaker, the studio, or the tastes of general audiences.
And so, it's common for horror movies to pull back from their nastier original visions during the production process, whether cutting a gnarly scene from the original script before shooting or cleaving a scene away during post-production.
That was certainly the case with these 20 horror flicks, each of which tossed out a scene for one of many reasons.
Perhaps the actor in question refused to shoot it, maybe the studio baulked at the graphic violence on offer, or test audiences complained that it threw the whole movie out of balance.
Whatever the reason, these 20 horror movie scenes were culled, with only a few of them ever actually seeing the light of day as home video extras, sadly...
20. Jason Kicks A Dog - Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
It'll probably surprise you to learn that this moment cut from Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan wasn't an over-the-top kill which rubbed censors the wrong way, but a piece of character shading for everyone's favourite hockey mask-wearing murderer, Jason Voorhees.
Jason Takes Manhattan marked Kane Hodder's second of four times playing Jason, and is nowadays considered an authority on what the character would or wouldn't do.
But during shooting of Jason Takes Manhattan, Hodder was scripted to perform a scene where Jason kicks a dog to stop it barking at him shortly after he arrives in the Big Apple.
Hodder ultimately flat-out refused to film the scene, reasoning that Jason would never harm a dog and his murderous tendencies extended only to humans.
And so, writer-director Rob Hedden apparently dropped the idea without much of an argument.
It's an especially amusing line for Hodder to draw considering that Jason may or may not have killed a dog way back in Friday the 13th Part 2.
