Dan Aykroyd Still Trying To Get GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Made

Explains character details for the long-awaited threequel and says he likes the idea of casting a Criminal Minds actor for one of the new recruits.

I'm not sure who on the planet truly still believes that Ghostbusters 3 will be made... oh wait I do know somebody, Dan Aykroyd. Once again the biggest motivator (often, the only one) behind a twenty years overdue third movie in the action/comedy franchise is still hopeful that Bill Murray can be convinced to even read The Office writers Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky's script (Columbia are happy to front the $150 million to make the movie but only with Murray) but the comedy legend is once again proving to be the guy who ruins the party for everyone. Murray is currently shooting Hyde Park on Hudson, a movie that he chose to do after the Ghostbusters 3 script was fed-exed to him which to many felt like a big F U to his former comedy partners, clearly showing them that the likelihood is he ain't ever gonna make the film. He's more likely to do a Garfield 3 than a Ghostbusters 3 and at this point, I do have to question, would we really want him too reprise Peter Venkman if this is how he feels about it? With his attitude and state of mind towards it his appearance would be a hindrance. Aykroyd was on the Dennis Miller Radio Show (via Coming Soon) and said he hoped Ghostbusters 3 would film in the Spring but admitted Murray is still a problem, though they would discard him if he wouldn't agree to the film;

Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray, he says, That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold , myself and Sigourney . The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of Ghostbusters 3 is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.

The new blood as we know are likely to be made up of Saturday Night Live comedians (Bill Hader and Will Forte were prevoiusly spoke of) and Anna Faris with Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano fighting for the one female role in the new team. Now Aykroyd adds another new name to the new blood;

I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the Criminal Minds show... But theres going to be a casting. Were going to see everyone that wants to do it. Were going to needthree guys and a young woman.

Having never seen Criminal Minds and having fallen asleep during the screening of Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic (in which Gubler shared screen time with Murray), I can't really comment but he's hardly the name that would get Columbia excited. Aykroyd then gave us some interesting character/plot details;

Anyway, the plot of this picture will find our aging Ghostbusters no longer fit for duty and recruiting a new school team to take over. My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and cant drive the cadillac, Aykroyd said. Hes got a bad knee and cant carry the packs Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and thats the promise. Were gonna hand it to a new generation.

Sounds a bit like Extreme Ghostbusters don't it? But anyway, despite Ayrkoyd being confident of a shoot next Spring, we doubt Columbia would be so interested without Bill Murray. The fate of the picture still rests on whether he can be convinced to do a movie he doesn't want to do, for the big paycheck he doesn't need.
