When Colossus appeared in X2 and X-Men Days of Future Past, the role was being played by Daniel Cudmore. It wasn't a big part, and was light on dialogue, but Cudmore seemed to be comfortably part of the family. Well, apparently not. Though everybody is expecting Colossus to appear in the new Deadpool movie - he was certainly in multiple drafts of the screenplay - Cudmore has broken the unfortunate news that this time, he won't have the part. Here are his tweets on the matter. Poor chap. https://twitter.com/danielcudmore/status/567752786679308288 https://twitter.com/danielcudmore/status/567753428168749057 Now, this seems pretty likely to be because the role is being recast. There were a few scenes in which Colossus had to banter with Deadpool a bit, and Fox might be looking for somebody with... well, let's just say "a different energy." Somebody who can riff with Ryan Reynolds a bit better. They don't need a good excuse to recast, because this is Deadpool and it's not going to care about anything moderately sensible like that. Honestly: wait until you see how they handle X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though it's also entirely possible that Colossus might have been written out of the script. It's four years since I first wrote about his inclusion and a lot can change in that time. It's worth noting that I never saw Angel Dust in any of the drafts that featured Colossus and she's in now, in the guise of Gina Carano, so perhaps there's been quite a substantial revamp. We'll find out sooner than I often think. Deadpool is under a year away with a release date of February 12th 2016.
