Danny Woodburn (Mirror Mirror, Seinfeld) has been cast as Master Splinter in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Splinter is the sensei and father-figure to the Turtles, teaching them martial arts abilities and instilling in them a strict moral code. Splinter€™s origins are one of two versions, depending on your source material. He is either Hamato Yoshi, a Japanese martial arts instructor for the Foot Clan who mutated into a human-like rat after coming in contact with mysterious ooze (which would also transform the turtles into humanoid turtles); or he is Hamato Yoshi€™s pet rat who mutated into a much larger and more intelligent version. The nickname Splinter came from his proficiency in breaking wood with his martial arts abilities. The full cast is confirmed as Alan Ritchson (Raphael), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello), Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), with Megan Fox as April O€™Neil and Will Arnett attached in an unrevealed role. Currently filming, the movie is said to be part CGI and part live-action, blending the two into an Avatar-like approach which means, given that Woodburn€™s character is a large talking rat, his performance could be entirely motion-capture. No word yet on whether Shredder or Casey Jones will appear in this reboot of the popular franchise. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Battle Los Angeles) and produced by Michael Bay (Transformers, Pain & Gain), Ninja Turtles is scheduled for release on 16 May 2014. source - deadline
