Darren Aronofsky to helm Black Swan

By Matt Holmes /

After years of production hell, when Darren Aronofsky'sThe Fountain was finally released it split audiences right down the middle. It was notorouisly booed at the Cannes Film Festival but was then given a 10 minute standing ovation at a public screening the following night! Some found it too confusing and a bit of a mind-fuck, whilst others devoured every second of it. One thing that most would agree on I think though, is that it was absolutely fascinating and a "must-see". The Fountain comes out in the U.K. next Friday (hopefully, it won't get pushed back again) and I CAN'T WAIT! Anyway, onto the dude's next movie. Variety are reporting that Universal Pictures have acquired the psychological thriller Black Swan for Aronofsky to direct. More info from Coming Soon... "John McLaughlin has begun writing the film that looks at the manipulative relationship between a veteran dancer and a rival. The studio is fast-tracking the project for Aronofsky, who most recently helmed The Fountain". The project sounds a little more down to Earth for Aronofsky, which is probably a good thing after the problems he had with The Fountain. I've heard a lot of people rumble about Aronofsky being the next "Stanley Kubrick", which is a massive complement if I ever heard one. He's got a long way to go yet, but he is certainly beginning to make a name for himself. source - variety, coming soon
