Legendary Pictures & Warner Bros are turning to their go-to man David Goyer, who wrote their Batman Begins reboot and the forthcoming Superman redo The Man of Steel - to pull off magic a third time with their proposed Godzilla reboot. Deadline say Goyer will re-write David Callaham's (The Expendables, Doom) original script for the epic-sized lizard, which will still be directed by Gareth Edwards from a budget a million miles away from the low-budget indie sensation Monsters which put him on the map. In fact his budget for Monsters might fail to pay the catering alone on Godzilla! Legendary and Warner Bros have been vocal about their Godzilla plans since buying the rights to the character from Toho last March, though Toho will still release in Japan. Essentially, they are making Godzilla Begins here, and just like they did with the Batman character with Christopher Nolan they are giving a complete do-over to a pop-culture icon who was ruined in the late 90s by an astonishingly wretched, high-profile disaster. So no surprise I guess that David Goyer has been hired. Goyer's appointment for Godzilla has got to be a positive for how pleased Legendary are with his Superman reboot, giving him the keys to their next big property.
