'The Batman', set for a 2021 release, revealed new images of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, later shared via Twitter.

DC Films President Walter Hamada explained that the upcoming film, directed by Matt Reeves, would be a standalone film sent in an alternate universe separate from the DC Extended Universe, much like Todd Phillips' Joker. The "multiverse" concept has already been established in live-action via The CW's Arrowverse series of television shows, which featured an "Infinite Earths" storyline which incorporated past and present iterations of DC characters alongside their own. Among others, Ezra Miller as the DCEU's Flash appeared briefly opposite CW's own Flash, establishing the two as existing in the same (albeit separated) continuity.

More relevantly, DC FanDome revealed new concept art of The Flash for his upcoming solo film. Adapted from the "Flashpoint" storyline, the film will heavily feature the multiverse concept, with Michael Keaton set to reprise his role 1989 and 1992's Batman and Batman Returns. The canonicity of that film within this new multiverse had previously been established in CW's "Crisis" event, wherein actor Robert Wuhl reprised his role as reporter Alexander Knox from Returns' 1989 predecessor, also directed by Tim Burton.
