Deadpool 2 Rumour: Fox Eye Cable And Domino For Sequel
The X-Force are about to be reunited.
In case you weren't paying attention, Deadpool 2 is coming. The first film pulled in close to $800m, despite being dropped in the February graveyard slot, and Fox would be mad not to speed a sequel through. They duly obliged, confirming that director Tim Miller, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and star Ryan Reynolds would be returning.
And of course, thanks to the film's cheeky post-credits stinger, we also know there was a good chance Cable would be appearing. Deadpool himself asked for "Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, or Keira Knightley" for the casting, but it seems Fox have a different name in mind.
According to Jeff Sneider on the latest Meet The Movie Press, the name is actually pretty surprising:
"People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There's been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn't changed, don't know if it's changed. Didn't make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler."
It's an interesting name, no doubt (even if that "biggest grain of salt possible" comment just makes it sound like he has no confidence in his own rumour). Chandler was excellent in Friday Night Lights and he has done great work in the likes of The Wolf Of Wall Street, King Kong and Zero Dark Thirty. He's not exactly the gruff archetype you might expect for Cable, but he'd bring something else to the table.
Sneider also claims that Fox have another character in mind - X-Force member Domino:
"The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis."
She was seen in The Martian last year and she has the Blade Runner sequel coming: expect to hear the name a LOT more.
Again, it's an unexpected name, but it does fit the casting model for the first Deadpool. It's not a case of bringing in big A-listers, but upwardly mobile talents who fit the lightly off-kilter spirit.
And of course, having both Cable and Domino involved would be a great move - and a way of avoiding having to bring in more mainline X-Men cameos. It would also be a great way of spinning off into an X-Force movie too, which surely HAS to happen soon.
