In the wake of James Gunn's departure from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, the future of the MCU sequel has been far from certain. It's seemingly on hiatus now, with Marvel looking to bring in a replacement director and presumably trying to wrangle Dave Bautista into a more manageable mood.

It looked as though they might have found their man in Travis Knight - whose work on Bumblebee is getting him rave reviews - but that rumour now looks to have taken a fairly serious set-back as the man himself has come out with a rebuttal of sorts.

Badtaste.it spoke to Knight on the Bumblebee publicity tour and addressed what his future holds, including the link to Guardians Vol 3:

After Bumblebee, my goal is to return to work at the animation studios Laika, my "child", bringing with me all the baggage of experiences I have gained with this project. [...] I'm a huge fan of what Marvel did, it's no surprise for anyone to know that as a child I was a huge fan of comics. But no, it's just a rumor!

it's definitely good news for Laika fans that Knight is planning to put more back into that project (because it's wonderful and stop-motion animation needs a champion like him), but it would be a shame if he didn't get more live action opportunities, given how well Bumblebee seems to be tracking right now.

For now, the search continues. Hopefully, Marvel are considering all options available to them COUGH Lord and Miller COUGH, and we'll get confirmation of an appointment relatively soon. At least then we can stop worrying that the sequel won't happen.
