Did Marvel Force Sony To Remove Green Goblin From Silver & Black?

The studio reportedly has "big plans" for the Spider-Man villain...

Sony's relationship with Marvel Studios is a tad confusing at the moment, what with all the Spider-Man spin-offs, Venom sequels and more that all seem to be disconnected from the MCU currently doing the rounds, but one thing that is clear is that Tom Holland is the web-slinger, and that he'll be crawling walls in the MCU for the foreseeable future.

The matter of who he'll be facing in that future, however, has proven difficult to discern. We know for a fact that Jake Gyllenhaal will bring life to Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and that the Chameleon and others are likely to feature too, but after that it's all uncharted territory. However, movie insider Daniel R revealed on Twitter earlier this week that Marvel "have big plans for [Norman Osborn]" in the MCU, and now - curtesy of That Hashtag Show's Charles Murphy - it is claimed that the studio directly forbade Sony from using the character, AKA the Green Goblin, in the now-cancelled Silver & Black.

While this falls short of official confirmation that Osborn will show up in the MCU soon, it seems almost inevitable that the character will appear at some stage. He's Spider-Man's greatest adversary after all, and with it having been a whopping 16 years since we last saw a genuine Goblin on the big screen, to say that the character's return is overdue would be putting things lightly.

Should he come to the MCU, we can expect him to mess with more than just Spider-Man. Norman terrorised the Marvel Universe for years while in control of H.A.M.M.E.R. (S.H.I.E.L.D's evil equivalent), and founded the Dark Avengers, so there's clear precedent to support Daniel R's assertion too.
