7. Him

Even accepting that Him's marketing more-or-less tried to trick audiences into thinking it was written and directed by Jordan Peele - rather than serving as a producer - the trailers still made it look like one hell of a wild ride.

With how much head injuries in contact sports have been under the microscope in recent years, a horror film centered around the subject makes so much sense. 

And while the marketing suggested a visually hypnotic, intensely acted time, Him ultimately fell a little short of the mark.

Again not a bad film, but considering how delicious its cinematography is and how hard Marlon Wayans goes in the antagonist role, it's a shame that as both a visceral horror film and a satire of the sports industrial complex, Him feels tepid and superficial.

When it comes time to reveal the precise nature of its horror, Him transcends into a farce that swiftly becomes difficult to take seriously.
