Based on Jerry Spinelli popular YA book of the same name, the movie follows Stargirl Caraway, "a homeschooled teen who enrols in an Arizona high school, altering the ecosystem of the student body with her nonconformity."

Playing the titular teen is America's Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal, who is very much the prototypical Disney star in the making. Julia Hart (Miss Stevens) directors from a script by Kristin Hahn (The Yellow Birds), with support from Graham Verchere and Giancarlo Esposito.
