Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments
Open your third eye...
Doctor Strange and WTF elements go hand in hand like Stan Lee and hilarious cameos in MCU movies. He is after all the conduit to the stranger elements of the Marvel universe, and indeed the key to opening those odder doors for future movies, and it's inevitable that even greater oddities lie behind them.
Marvel could have actually played it safe with the Sorceror Supreme's debut in the MCU: they could have toned down his mysticism and the supernatural elements of his universe (as they did with Scarlet Witch and to a lesser extent Thor), instead seeking a more grounded version that would slot in with the rest of the films. But the fact that Kevin Feige drove a pure adaptation of the comics that has delighted newcomers and old fans of the comics alike is just brilliant.
Inevitably, that means that the film is a strange affair, but not always in the way Marvel intended. Sure, it's great overall, but it has some pretty big blemishes, plot holes and flat-out WTF moments that emerge as soon as you start scratching the surface.
Here are the biggest WTF moments in Doctor Strange...
25. Doctor Strange Is A Dick
What has been quickly established since the first viewings of Doctor Strange is that Stephen Strange is very much the heir apparent to Tony Stark. He's an arrogant, thoroughly charming roguish playboy who is petulant, snobbish and aloof, but he has a loveable streak that is first introduced - weirdly - by his encyclopedic knowledge of obscure pop music.
Except some of his actions actually imply he's an outright villain, and not just a bit of a Stark-style douche. Where Stark's complicity in his family business' weapons trading was more out of privileged ignorance than anything else, Strange wilfully ignores cases in order to preserve his perfect record. He's very possibly a monster through inaction and at no stage does he really atone for it.
