After leaving The Old Familiar the group attempt to get into The Famous Cock where they can have the third pint of their crawl. Unfortunately, this pub happens to be the first where Gary gets recognised, with the landlord saying hes on the banned for life list. The name The Famous Cock is therefore inspired by Garys status as a notorious former drinker in the establishment. He had to have been a cock to get himself barred for life, and certainly famous enough for the publican to remember it. Also, outside the pun theres a clever numerical reference to the pubs status as the third stop on the Golden Mile. The reference ccomes when Gary makes a pint out of three separate glasses in an effort to continue his one-pint-one-pub policy. Despite being possibly the only time the drinking practice known as minesweeping was committed to celluloid, the three glasses are obviously a reference to the third pub.
