The act of crippling a zombie with a car was taken from a similar scene in 1990s Night of the Living Dead, where Ben does the same as Ed, only 13 years earlier. In a further car reference later, Ed yells at Shaun Hey man, watch the leather, as Shaun scrambles out the sunroof. This is a quote inspired by a similar line from Matthew McConaugheys David Wooderson in Dazed and Confused.
