The scene where Shaun runs into Yvonne and her group of mirror images to our protagonists works as a giant in-joke for Wright. The opposite gang is headed by Peggs co-star and fellow Spaced alumnus Jessica Hynes and features star actors from huge comedies of the time, such as The Offices Martin Freeman, Black Books Tamsin Greig, Little Britains Matt Lucas, The League of Gentlemens Reece Shearsmith and Julia Deacon from Spaced. The apparent implication is that Yvonnes the main character in another film with a bigger budget. An alternate reading of the scene is that its an indirect homage to Resident Evil, where a male and a female character fight zombies in divergent storylines before meeting up on occasions. Either way, its a thought-provoker.
