By Edward Owen /

Much like in Shaun of the Dead, the locations of Sandford are awash with references to films and stars, only this time from the action genre. Examples include Brannigan Farm €“ here Nicholas and Danny discover an arsenal of weaponry and a sea mine €“ being named after the 1975 John Wayne vehicle Brannigan, whereas George Merchant€™s not-very-rustic house can be found on Norris drive, in honour of action hero Chuck Norris. Other references include the location of the mega-mart that threatens Skinner€™s business is based in Buford Abbey €“ a reference to Buford Pusser, the Sheriff who inspired 1973 film Walking Tall €“ and the sea-mine harbouring Ellroy Farm is a shout-out to James Elroy, the author of eventual movie classic LA Confidential. Finally, the travellers who cost Irene Butterman her sanity moved into Callahan Park, a reference to Clint Eastwood€™s Harry Callahan.
