Much like in Shaun of the Dead, the locations of Sandford are awash with references to films and stars, only this time from the action genre. Examples include Brannigan Farm here Nicholas and Danny discover an arsenal of weaponry and a sea mine being named after the 1975 John Wayne vehicle Brannigan, whereas George Merchants not-very-rustic house can be found on Norris drive, in honour of action hero Chuck Norris. Other references include the location of the mega-mart that threatens Skinners business is based in Buford Abbey a reference to Buford Pusser, the Sheriff who inspired 1973 film Walking Tall and the sea-mine harbouring Ellroy Farm is a shout-out to James Elroy, the author of eventual movie classic LA Confidential. Finally, the travellers who cost Irene Butterman her sanity moved into Callahan Park, a reference to Clint Eastwoods Harry Callahan.
