Enola Holmes Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
1. The Mediocre Villains
Though the movie smartly spends most of its time focused on developing its central character, it is a shame that this is so thoroughly at the expense of the story's villains.
While most of them can't even be talked about for spoiler reasons, the major antagonist for most of the movie is the menacing stalker Linthorn (Burn Gorman).
As effortlessly as Gorman cuts an intimidating figure - especially when facing off against a child - neither he nor the film's other baddies are much more than generic, surface-level cardboard cutouts.
It isn't asking a lot for a two-plus-hour Holmes movie to dig into its villains with a little more vigour, but instead they're pretty lifeless and unmemorable.
