Nominations: 2 - Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design

Victoria and Abdul is the sort of movie your grandma would probably watch on a Sunday afternoon and have a darn pleasant time with. It's gentle and easy to watch, with just enough edge to avoid the dry, stodgy cliches associated with some Oscar-baiting period fare.

Judi Dench is the easy highlight in a movie that's at least self-aware enough to mock the ceremonial absurdity of the Monarchy and isn't afraid to consider the inherent unpleasantness of colonialism.

Hardly vital cinema and easily forgotten save for Dench's typically fabulous work, it's a perfectly fine, OK movie that doesn't really touch the sides.
