Critic Consensus: "Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing."

Fans were skeptical about Suicide Squad from the get go. The film was to feature a radical new Joker (played by Jared Leto), and the recent poor reviews of Batman v Superman did not leave many holding high hopes for the film. However, after the release of the first trailer, which brilliantly used Bohemian Rhapsody as its theme, fans were getting hyped.

However, the trailers massively oversold and misrepresented the film as a Suicide Squad v Joker story. Instead, fans were given a plot where the main cast (full of mostly bland cariactures) take on faceless CGI puppets controlled by the true villain, Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

Leto's role was mostly cut, leaving fans with a love sick puppy version of the Joker who felt very out of character. The cast was also mostly bland, with characters like Rick Flag and Katana being very underwhelming. However, performances from Will Smith, Viola Davis and Margot Robbie add some light to what is otherwise a terrible film.
