It's a little stupid in how it's presented, granted, but it's hard to be too harsh on Betty Kupfer.

For Betty, she dropped down dead in shock after seeing her son Buddy's head turn to mush as bugs and snakes seeped out of the Silver Shamrock mask the kid was wearing. That's quite the sight for any parent, even if it was almost comical in the way she fell to the floor.

Much like her husband Mason, Cynthia was caught completely off guard by Michael Myers.

After the Shape had dumped Mason's dead body in front of her, he attacks Cynthia and eventually snaps her neck, but not before she's able to piece together that Michael's returned to Haddonfield to go after her adopted daughter - and Michael's sister - Laurie Strode.
