3. Rian Johnson's Trilogy

Status: Confirmed

Despite some rumours to the contrary, Rian Johnson is still working on his all-new trilogy as things currently stand, and that's great news for the future of Star Wars.

Johnson is a visionary filmmaker, and letting a creative like him go off and do a brand new thing with no carry over from previous movies necessary is a strong move for a franchise that's had 10 movies all connected to the same overarching narrative.

There's not much known yet, with Johnson busy on Knives Out, but it's going to be something completely fresh and unlike what we've seen before, which sounds like exactly what Star Wars is going to need after Episode IX.
