Sony must have hoped that their sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man would deliver the same sort of quality as Sam Raimi's first sequel, but it ended up being more like Spider-Man 3: bloated, stuffed with too many villains and a sloppy end to a project with lots of potential.

Instead of focusing more intimately on Peter Parker, Sony instead looked to the future, announcing spin-offs and sequels before it even came out and then spending way too much time and attention in the movie to seed the shared universe they wanted to rival the MCU. Inevitably, director Marc Webb's voice ended up lost in the shuffle.

Electro could have been a great villain, but then the attempt to set up a Sinister Six movie sidelines him, and while the web-slinging and the attempt to capture Gwen Stacy's death story are both admirable, the final product was misguided and a mess.
