17. Rocket Raccoon

When Rocket Raccoon was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he couldn't have been further from an Avenger. The little creature acted as a bounty hunter, had escaped from multiple prisons in his lifetime, and would betray or sell anybody out if he would stand to gain some personal benefit.

However, from the time Thanos snapped his fingers in Wakanda and through the five year time jump in Endgame, Rocket became a big part of the team. He was one of just three Avengers that patrolled the reaches of space, covering a lot of territory, and likely took point on much of the team's technological advances in the absence of Tony Stark.

Important though he may have been however, he certainly lacked in terms of strength when compared to his teammates. Just like during his time with the Guardians, Rocket helped the team in other ways.

The creature, tiny in stature, has always had to rely on weapons and technology whenever caught in a fight. His solution to which was to utilise Groot as his personal bodyguard and muscle. Rocket has always been the brains of the operation, never the brawn.
