37. Thor: The Dark World (2011)

Thor: The Dark World has all the flaws of Iron Man 2, another rocky mid-trilogy movie that fails to live-up to its predecessor, in that it's too full to properly come together.

Following Thor as he does battle with a vicious dark elf (Christopher Eccleston), works to save an ensnared Jane, and grapples with his relationship to traitor brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the sequel soars with the drama surrounding Thor and Loki's conflict, but slumps too low to save thanks to its flat action and villainy.

Juggling too much and executed with passionless colours and energy, The Dark World does well when it focusses on Hemsworth and Hiddleston, but this dynamic remains its only saving grace. No wonder Portman was so desperate to bail.
