X2 is further proof that, when it comes to superhero series, second is the best.

Building on the success of X-Men, X2 opens up the world of mutants in new and exciting ways. One of the best new additions is Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, who gives us one of the best X-Men opening scenes ever, and an utterly lovable performance. It's a damn shame he didn't return for further sequels.

Meanwhile, Brian Cox is terrifying as the all-too-believable villain William Stryker, a military scientist who wants to use Cerebro for a worldwide genocide of mutants. Not for the last time, the X-Men must team up with their old adversary Magneto to put a stop to him.
