10. Luke Vs. Himself - The Empire Strikes Back

Alright, so this one's a bit of a cheat considering that Luke is really just battling a vision of Darth Vader/himself in Dagobah's creepy Dark Side Cave, but it makes the list because it's an awesome fight for its nothing-length with interesting implications for the rest of the franchise.

So, Luke enters the cave and encounters a terrifying illusion of Darth Vader, after which the briefest of lightsaber duels begins, brought to an end when Luke swiftly slices Vader's head clean off.

Vader's masked head falls to the floor and the face-plate explodes, revealing Luke's own face underneath and hinting at both the potential future awaiting him if he turns to the Dark Side, and more subtly that he is indeed the son of Darth Vader.

It's also another extremely violent moment in a series of apparently "family friendly" movies. How often these days can a big-budget blockbuster sneak in a freaking severed head, in medium close-up no less, without the MPAA hitching a fit?

It may have no real, physical consequence, but its emotional meaning makes it an interesting, if incredibly brief, battle all the same.
