Fan-made Image that inspired Abrams on STAR TREK
Fan controversy over the new STAR TREK movie has gone mad over the weekend a good 11+ months before the damn reboot is even released. People need to calm down, it's not like they have made Scotty a hot blonde or Kirk a disgruntled Klingon warrior. Things will more or less be just as they were before, and just because the Enterprise was being built on Earth (surely the first one had to be, before getting into space?) doesn't mean that Abrams is raping anyone's childhoods just yet. So where did the idea come from to build the ship on Earth? Well, it was this fan made image apparently. No-one knows who it belongs to or how Abrams and his producers found it but it's the image that inspired the new trailer. Here's the image...

And the image from the trailer... A pretty neat image to give you a sense of the size and scale of the ship itself and all this 'grounding TREK in reality' that Abrams is doing is such a great idea. The new fans need to believe in this new TREK because the images of a tight uniform wearing William Shatner and Lenoard Nimoy are so in-grained in people's minds as a 'camp' and 'silly' space program that they need something to grab and hook them straight away. This kind of stuff is brilliant, as was the Neil Armstrong "moon" message. Keep it up Mr. Abrams, and you MIGHT just get your money back on this feature come Christmas time. source - trek movie
