Fast & Furious 8: What The Ending Of Fate Of The Furious Really Means

3. Has Agent Hobbs Retired?

Universal Pictures

Somewhat ridiculously, Hobbs ends up losing his official status as a government agent when he's sent on a black ops mission to retrieve a WMD from Germany (because for some reason that sort of thing is frowned upon...? Who knows, it's not really explained).

Anyway, at the end of the film, the increasingly growing family are sitting around having a barbecue, which Mr Nobody is obviously invited to (how did he get his invite when his name is Mr Nobody and he lives Nowhere?)

He comes with a peace offering for The Rock's Luke Hobbs - a pardon and his job as a cop back. He turns to his daughter and tells her and Mr Nobody that he won't be taking it - that "Daddy will be staying home". So, presumably that also means he won't be available for even more dangerous missions that would make his daughter's life even more difficult too?

Has he just quietly retired, even before they've even given him his spin-off? Or is this how he gets his spin-off?
