3. It's Got A Horrible Message For Women

Universal

This franchise continues to perpetuate a rather disturbing message for women, romanticising a deeply unhealthy relationship where Ana frequently allows herself to be commanded by a domineering a**hole with deep-seated mental health issues.

The movie mostly treats it as cheeky and kinky, ignoring the fact that it's putting out a damaging message to women of all ages, that this is something to strive for, hammered home by an ending that implies their relationship is going the distance.

It's apt, really, considering that the franchise Fifty Shades spawned from, Twilight, has a similarly repugnant message, but is much more irresponsible as it's targeting young girls who haven't yet come of age.
