18. The Cinematography Is Surprisingly Great (Again)

One of the most surprising aspects of the first movie is its strong visuals, thanks to twice-Oscar-nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey.

Though McGarvey didn't return to shoot this sequel, it's clear from this opening shot that fans are in good hands with fellow Oscar-nominated cinematographer John Schwartzman (Seabiscuit).

As painful as some of the movie will inevitably end up being, at least it's going to look nice, and if you're going to throw hamfisted visual sexual metaphors into the movie (fireworks = ejaculation), they might as well at least be pretty.

Schwartzman probably won't be getting another Oscar nod for his work here, but it looks sharp throughout.
