Yesterday marked the day when young adults everywhere became increasingly excited to relive their childhood yet again. Deadline confirmed that Pixar are going ahead with Finding Nemo 2 and that Andrew Stanton, fresh off delivering the year's biggest flop John Carter that cost Disney hundreds of millions of dollars, is being welcomed back with open arms to deliver an animated sequel to his 9-years old sea adventure. The word is Stanton wouldn't have had much interest in delivering another Nemo movie but he's back here in the hope he can restore his reputation as an audience pleaser and can get another shot a live-action movie in the future. We imagine he pitched something to Pixar and they said "deliver Finding Nemo 2 to recoup the $200 million you lost on John Carter and we'll let you make something else here". Just don't expect that move to be a John Carter sequel! Finding Nemo 2 will open 2016 and continues Pixar's recent decision to switch from the studio who mostly delivers original fare (Monster's Inc, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up were a string of non-sequels) to a franchise studio. Finding Nemo 2 joins Monster's University and Toy Story 3 as Pixar looking back to the past.
