First look: THE SMURFS 3-D!

Here's our first early glimpse at the 3-D animated SMURFS movie currently in production over at Paramount. Looks pretty faithful to the original canon wouldn't ya say?

Paramount's plan (circa November 2006 at least) with THE SMURFS was to launch a trilogy the epic grandeur scale of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, though predomintely aimed at kids. No cast assigned yet, though John Lithgrow is widely thought to be the front runner for the role of Gargamel and it's pretty much his if he wants it. Last we heard, Colin Brady (co-director of EVERYONE'S HEREO and visual effects guru) was on board to direct, but the helm changes so many times on these animated features, it's often hard to keep track. source - coming soon
