First Plot Details For The Jurassic World Sequel Sound VERY Different
Reboot's director, Colin Trevorrow, hints at the franchise's future.
Latino Review he throws out various interesting ideas that plot out the future of the franchise. He talks about removing the "bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island" dynamic (so no repeating of JP III) and pushing the development of the series' intrinsic science, suggesting a continuation of the World's (admittedly undercooked) militarisation subplot The thing he discusses at length, however, and what will probably form a key part of JP5's narrative, is the idea of business warfare. "It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it?" posits Trevorrow, opening up the possibility of a world where dinosaurs are pitted against each other in a biological version of the console wars. We know from the meta-subtext of Jurassic World that Trevorrow likes his social commentary, but this would turn it all the way up to eleven. It's certainly be cool, but there is a risk here of going a little too far off what makes the series work - if you remove the island then isn't it just a nondescript film about dinosaurs? It all depends whether they get a director who can make it work. What do you think? Does this mix things up enough? Should they even make Jurassic Park 5? Colin Trevorrow won't be returning to Isla Nublar to direct Jurassic World 2/Jurassic Park 5, describing the series as "like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie." He'd know, of course, having recently being announced as the director of Star Wars: Episode IX (SW fans are going to have to get good with Roman numerals), although he hasn't totally turned his back on In-Gen. In fact, it's sounding like he'll be, at the very least, involved in the sequel's story phase - he recently dropped some hints at what dino-fans can expect when the sequel hits in 2018.
